focus mode

FocusMode is an eye-tracking enhanced reading interface for academic texts that dynamically presents supporting content (figures, citations, etc.) based on where the reader is looking. By using real-time gaze tracking, FocusMode can detect when a reader fixates on a reference or figure call-out and automatically display the corresponding information in a pop-up, thereby reducing the need for manual lookup. This gaze-contingent approach aims to minimize disruptions: the system responds only after a sustained gaze (a dwell of a few seconds) on an element, under the assumption that prolonged focus indicates interest or need for more information. FocusMode leverages modern webcam-based eye-tracking technology (avoiding expensive specialized hardware) to create a seamless reading experience.
